Swedish Massage: Traditional
massage to reduce everyday stress and tension,
stimulate circulation, and induce a state of
deep relaxation. It works mainly on the
muscles, ligaments and tendons and
incorporates five main manipulations:
effleurage (long gliding movements),
petrissage (kneading), compression, vibration
and tapotement. Oil or cream is used on the
skin as a lubricant and the client is draped
with sheets to provide warmth and modesty. A
good introduction to the benefits of massage.
Deep Tissue Massage: Releases
the patterns of tension in the body through
slow strokes and deep pressure on contracted
areas, both by following and going across the
grain of the muscles, tendons and fascia.
These detailed massage applications to deeper
muscle and connective tissue help to relieve
chronic patterns of pain.
Sports Massage: Designed
specifically for athletes or those who engage
in sports, exercise, or fitness programs. It
is usually more vigorous than an average
massage and may involve stretching techniques.
Can be used to ready the muscles for strenuous
activity or to assist the body in recovering
from the aftereffects of such an activity.
Prenatal: Helps to relieve
stress on weight-bearing joints, eases lower
back and sciatic pain, reduces water retention
and makes for an easier delivery. Comfortable
positioning is achieved by lying the
mother-to-be on her side, with pillows for
support and comfort. Certain acupressure
points will be avoided, and special attention
will be paid to the changing needs of her
body. (Please indicate pregnant when
scheduling.)
Shiatsu (Acupressure): An
Asian-based system offering pressure massage
that treats special points along acupuncture
meridians (energy channels). Physical and
emotional discomforts are thought to be caused
by blocks in the meridians; shiatsu releases
those blocks and rebalances the energy flow (qi).
Clients wear comfortable, loose fitting
clothing and no oils are used. This ancient
system reduces muscle tension, promotes
healthy functioning of all organs, relieves
fatigue and stimulates one’s natural
self-healing abilities.
Sotai: A gentle system
approach that seeks to restore balance in the
body by aligning the breath with movement and
resistance exercises to release tight muscles
and bring the body into a state of ease. It
works to realign joints and vertebrae, improve
blood flow and lymph circulation, improve qi
(energy) circulation and reduce pain.
Cranial Sacral Therapy:
Consists of very light manipulation of the
joints of the skull and in so doing,
manipulation of the meninges (protective
coverings) of the brain. This technique is
done to alter the flow of cerebrospinal fluid
around the brain and through the vertebral
column to the sacrum for the purpose of
reducing chronic pain. Benefits are to your
central nervous system, brain and spinal cord.
